The Rover Crew, Leadership & Auxiliary Team

Scouting is the largest international youth movement, engaging young people in almost every country. Rover Scouts is the final section of the ‘path’ to adult life with a strong focus on community engagement and social inclusion. Rovering develops leadership abilities and camaraderie by empowering Rover Scouts to run their own activities. The Rover Crew is an excellent opportunity for adults to continue there Scouting program similar to the youth, but in a more advance level.
Rover Scouts is open all young adults aged 18+. It is all about adventure, excitement, challenge and achievement. No previous scouting experience required! Rovers function in crews. A crew is a small collection of around 6 - 20 Rovers who engage in a self-managed weekly program. Crew members generally become friends for life! Their motto is: "Service". As B-P originally intended, there is no upper age limit. Rovers are organized in a self-organising Crew. Their motto is put into practice both in the group and in the community. The highest award is the BP Award. |
Leadership & Screening
Assisting in the delivery Baden-Powell's life long project can be just as exiting to you as it was for him. You can be young enough to dream and play but old enough to assist in leading a section through the Patrol System. There is just as many adult learning opportunities, challenges and fun as there is for the youth in traditional scouting.
The first requirement to being a leader is a desire to assist in this out of doors program and put the youth safely and first!
All programs of BPSA-NB are designed with due consideration for the protection and safety of all participants. To help ensure the safety and protection of all participants, BPSA-NB Council screens all adult volunteers for all positions, and conducts reviews of volunteers.
The BPSA-NB Council expects that all adult volunteers will adhere to this policy by following the initial steps to become a Scout Adult volunteer, which are:
- A Police Record Check,
- Completion of the 'Application for Adult Membership',
- Provide FOUR personal references, and
- A personal interview.
- Participate in training opportunities appropriate to their Scouting role;
- Acting with due consideration for the safety of the other members; and
- Reporting to the Council any volunteer who poses a risk to youth members.
Failure or refusal to complete the Police Record Check, and provide the completed application form,
and the required references will make the application unacceptable.
All checks will be handled with confidentially.

All adult members will fill their positions on a trial basis for a period of four months. In this probationary period the new adult volunteer is permitted to work with children only when under close supervision of a Warranted adult member. During this time the volunteer will remain under the supervision and assessment of the Group Scoutmaster. Once this probationary period has been successfully completed, the new member may be invested.
Auxiliary Members
Our Group Auxiliary team is comprised of parents from each section (Otters, Timberwolves, Explorers) community volunteers and others interested in the well-being of the group. Six to eight persons is the average size.
The Group Auxiliary team consists of un-uniformed volunteers, with the exception of the Group Scoutmaster who is a liaison between the team and the Scout Group.
The Group Auxiliary is responsible to the BPSA-NB organization and the 1st Moncton BPSA Scouting for property and equipment. It assists the Group Scoutmaster with finance, publicity, fundraising, finding accommodations for outings, camping grounds and leaders for the group. The Auxiliary conducts outreach among friends, colleagues, peers and the broader community to promote the group and its activities.
The Auxiliary is not concerned with the actual training and programs operations of the sections in the group. This is the responsibility of the uniformed leaders of the each section in the group.
